NYFE Summary

The Cyclone grew out of competition between Coney Island’s amusement operators. After the nearby Thunderbolt succeeded, brothers Jack and Irving Rosenthal commissioned another large coaster. Its wooden track still carries riders through a compact course of steep drops and turns.

The first drop falls 85 feet, and the ride reaches about 60 miles per hour. More than 2,600 feet of track fit into the structure beside the street. Luna Park operates the coaster as a ride, with height and safety restrictions for passengers.
