NYFE Summary

Arthur Brisbane developed the building as an apartment hotel with central kitchens. Meals traveled by dumbwaiter to pantries on the residential floors. Leaving out individual kitchens allowed a taller building under the rules then applied to apartment hotels.

Large setbacks carry the eye upward to a pointed roof and obelisk. At the lower floors, carved children, urns and stonework provide details that can be seen from the sidewalk. The building's height and domestic services were closely linked.
