Bay Terrace-Clearview

Choose a film or a meal at Bay Terrace Shopping Center, or an indoor program at the library on Bell Boulevard. These two community anchors connect the area’s postwar commercial development with more recent investment in public space for reading and learning.

Understanding Bay Terrace-Clearview

Cord Meyer dates the opening of Bay Terrace Shopping Center to the 1960s.

Bay Terrace Library has occupied its one-story Bell Boulevard building since 1981. A renovation that began in 2022 ended with its December 2024 reopening. QPL’s account records a designated teen area, multipurpose community room and expanded main entrance, alongside a separate accessible entrance on 23rd Avenue for off-hours programming.

The center’s relationship with housing continues to evolve. A January 2026 operator project overview proposes residences on upper-level parking areas off 26th Avenue. This is a dated development proposal, not a completed public amenity; check the center’s current updates before choosing an entrance or assuming a parking area is unchanged.

Utopia Bagels traces its Whitestone beginnings to 1981 and describes hand-rolling, kettle-boiling and a 1947 carousel oven. Its Utopia Parkway branch uses a Whitestone postal address.

Places to explore

  • Bay Terrace Library

    18-36 Bell Boulevard

Choose a reading, learning or family program in the renovated branch. Use its main Bell Boulevard address; ask which entrance applies if a particular event is scheduled outside normal hours. QPL’s current page lists wheelchair access.

  • Bay Terrace Open-Air Shopping Center

    26th Avenue and Bell Boulevard

The current operator directory lists a cinema, Ben’s Deli and other dining and retail businesses. Choose a film or a particular business and check it directly: the center warns that individual opening hours vary.

  • Utopia Bagels

    1909 Utopia Parkway

Choose among plain, everything or pumpernickel bagels and cream-cheese fillings on the branch's menu. Its own location page lists daily hours. Check those hours and the current menu before making a breakfast visit; no queue or seating availability is promised.

Planning a visit

Choose the cinema, business, library or bagel branch before planning travel. Fort Totten is a separate mapped park destination.

For a library program, confirm registration and which entrance to use. Consult the shopping center’s current site-work updates when planning an approach.
