Crotona Park East

Crotona Park East is the residential area beside Crotona Park, with the Bronx River landscape farther east. The park and nearby river projects show how recreation and reclaimed infrastructure shape this part of the Bronx.

Understanding Crotona Park East

Crotona Park began as Bathgate Woods before the city acquired it for the Bronx park system. Its lake, boathouse and 1930s pool complex reflect different stages in public recreation.

At Starlight Park, an exposition and amusement park gave way to later infrastructure and public recreation. New river bridges and greenway links were added in 2023.

Places to explore

  • Crotona Park

    Immediately west of the neighborhood

Choose the lake and boathouse landscape, play areas or sports facilities. The pool is a separate seasonal operation; a park visit does not establish swimming access.

  • Starlight Park

    Nearby Bronx River waterfront

Use the river paths, bridges and recreation areas to see the change from industrial and transport land to public waterfront. Check the operator’s access map rather than treating a collection of stops as a verified walking route.

  • Boone Slope

At Boone Avenue and West Farms Road

This small green space was created from expressway-related land acquisition. Its setting helps explain the neighborhood’s infrastructure; Parks says the origin of its name is uncertain.
