Far Rockaway-Bayswater
Pair Far Rockaway’s rebuilt public library with birdwatching on the bay at Bayswater Point State Park. The contrast makes the peninsula’s civic center and wetland edge understandable as two distinct destinations.

Understanding Far Rockaway-Bayswater
The city’s 2019 assessment describes a late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century commercial and entertainment core known as The Village. Shops, cinemas and civic institutions served the peninsula.
The current Far Rockaway library offers public programs and computer access downtown. Its commercial setting is distinct from the bayside portion of this area.
At the end of Point Breeze Place, Bayswater Point State Park occupies a 12-acre peninsula reaching into Mott Basin. New York State Parks identifies beachfront, wetlands and woodland habitat and records its former use as an Audubon bird sanctuary.
