Glendale

Glendale's public destinations include a restored WPA-era library and a German family restaurant on Myrtle Avenue. Choose a library visit or meal for different views of the area's civic architecture and immigrant family history. Mafera Park is a nearby, separately mapped Ridgewood option.

Understanding Glendale

Glendale Library was built in 1935 through the Works Progress Administration in an Italian Renaissance Revival design. A 2021 project restored historic features, reorganized its three levels and added an elevator and accessible Myrtle Avenue entrance.

John Lehner came from Freising in Bavaria before opening Zum Stammtisch with partners in 1972. The restaurant expanded into the neighboring building in 1988, and his sons later took over.
