Morris Park

Morris Park’s name survives from a horse-racing landscape that later became residential streets. Loreto Playground provides a tangible place to understand that change.

Understanding Morris Park

Part of the Loreto site was the grandstand of Morris Park Racetrack. After racing ended, the site hosted an early public air meet and an airfield before the land was divided for development.

Loreto Playground opened after the city acquired the land for recreation. Its memorial name honors police officer Alfred Loreto.

Places to explore

  • Loreto Playground

    Morris Park residential area

Choose the multi-use field and walking track for everyday recreation, and look for the Loreto memorial. The track and aviation history explain the site; the former grandstand and airfield are not presented as surviving visitor interiors.

  • Matthews Muliner Playground

The city created this play space in the 1950s as the neighborhood needed more recreation land. It offers a smaller local stop rather than a second version of the racing-history visit.
