Soundview-Bruckner-Bronx River

Morrison Avenue Plaza and Westchester Avenue’s shops provide an inland starting point for Soundview. Bronx River Houses adds a resident-led cultural history, while the river parks offer separate outdoor visits.

Understanding Soundview-Bruckner-Bronx River

Morrison Avenue Plaza turns former street space beneath the subway into a neighborhood sitting place. The city expanded it in 2022 with seating and planting, and linked it to Parque de los Ninos on Harrod Place.

Concrete Plant Park retains the red storage silos of a former concrete works. Community advocacy and cleanup turned the abandoned industrial site into a public waterfront park in 2009.

Starlight Park’s name recalls an exposition and amusement park. The later recreation site gained new river bridges and greenway connections in 2023.

Bronx River Houses has a distinct cultural history within the larger river landscape. A 2026 community project assembled residents' photographs of music, dance, sports and home life into a mural for the community-center lobby, marking the development's 75th anniversary.

The community board describes a mixture of public-housing developments around Bruckner Boulevard and one- and two-family houses, with local shopping along Westchester Avenue between Bronx River Avenue and Morrison Avenue. These inland streets are distinct from the park shoreline.

Places to explore

  • Morrison Avenue Plaza

Southeast corner of Morrison and Westchester avenues

Pause under the station, where the plaza offers bike racks beside the shopping streets. Check any current market or event program separately.

  • Westchester Avenue commercial strip

Between Bronx River Avenue and Morrison Avenue

Use the public shopping corridor for an everyday local visit, checking any chosen business directly. Its relationship to the elevated line and Morrison Plaza provides a different setting from the separately mapped waterfront parks.

  • Concrete Plant Park

Nearby, on the west bank between Westchester Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard

See the retained silos and restored river edge. This is a separate mapped park on the other bank, not proof that every Soundview waterfront parcel is accessible.

  • Starlight Park

    Nearby Bronx River waterfront

Choose river paths, bridge views and recreation areas. The connected greenway is a useful next action, but the two-park collection is not a checked walking itinerary.

  • Soundview Park

    Nearby southern waterfront park

For a longer open-space visit, choose this separate park at the river mouth. Its history traces marshland acquisition and filling, rather than an untouched natural landscape.

Planning a visit

Arrange any Bronx River Houses community-center visit directly with the operator. Public walk-in admission to the photo mural has not been established.
