South Ozone Park

Try Trinidadian roti or doubles at the family-run Trinciti Roti Shop, then choose a public program at South Ozone Park Library. The restaurant connects one family’s migration story with a wider neighborhood shaped by modest housing and Caribbean and South Asian settlement.

Understanding South Ozone Park

In its Ozone Park rezoning history, City Planning describes South Ozone Park developing in the early 1900s with low-cost housing. The report covers a larger region, with only parts of South Ozone Park inside the rezoning area. Its account helps explain the residential setting without treating its study boundary as today’s neighborhood outline.

City Planning’s 2026 Newest New Yorkers account identifies South Ozone Park as a center of Guyanese settlement and also describes Trinidadian and Indian communities. It places Liberty Avenue along the northern edge as a cultural and commercial corridor, with different stretches carrying names such as Little Guyana and Little Punjab. These names describe related communities and street sections; they are not interchangeable outlines for the whole mapped area.

Trinciti’s own history dates the restaurant to 2005, when Vishnu Maheepat and his wife opened it in South Ozone Park. They had immigrated from Trinidad, and their family’s local roots go back to the late 1980s. The account makes a concrete link between one household’s migration and a neighborhood business.

After Vishnu's death in 2019, his son Amit continued the restaurant with his mother and sister.
