Bronx · Neighborhood guide
Wakefield-Woodlawn
This combined North Bronx area includes Wakefield and residential Woodlawn. White Plains Road and Katonah Avenue offer different neighborhood centers; Woodlawn Cemetery is a separate adjoining destination.

Understanding Wakefield-Woodlawn
Wakefield changed from woods and farms as rail and subway connections expanded. Later Caribbean migration helped shape the shops and food businesses along White Plains Road.
The community board distinguishes Woodlawn north of the cemetery, with Katonah Avenue as its commercial spine. The cemetery should not be treated as the whole residential neighborhood.
