Brooklyn’s new building application and Queens’ greenhouse funding are at different stages: one is a proposal, while the other has a state funding commitment. In Manhattan, track lighting has political support but still needs dedicated money.
The Bronx’s baseball news centers on Cody Bellinger’s defensive award. On Staten Island, a campus production announcement brings the performing-arts department’s first musical to the Lab Theatre.
East River track lighting wins five officials’ backing
A capital-funding commitment is still needed before the proposal can become construction work.
Five elected officials have asked the city to add permanent lights as it reconstructs the running facility at East River Park. Their October 27 letter went to the commissioners of Parks and Design and Construction.
Campaign organizers say dedicated city or state funding is the next hurdle. Incorporating lights into the current coastal-resiliency work would also require an agency change request.

Flushing garden secures greenhouse funding for two replacements
The planned buildings would be accessible and partly open to visitors, with an outdoor garden replacing the old structures.
Queens Botanical Garden has secured $12 million in state capital support to replace two aging growing facilities. The total includes an extra $2 million committed at an October 30 announcement.
The new greenhouses are planned for the property’s boundary. After they are completed, the existing site would become additional outdoor space for the public. The current structures date to the 1960s.
