Van Cortlandt Park offers short and longer walking routes, while Midtown’s public-space signs help identify places to sit. In Williamsburg, a free family pop-up starts November 6.

An Astoria campaign stop came as early voting ended. Polls reopen for Election Day on November 3, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Staten Island residents can also mark November 11 and 26 for postal holidays.

Manhattan

Midtown plazas offer public seats during posted hours

Check access signs and the city’s map before choosing a place to pause between errands.

A plaza outside 780 Third Avenue is part of Manhattan’s network of privately owned public spaces. These areas sit on private property but must be available for public use under their access rules.

Look for the sign listing opening hours and required amenities before settling in for a break. Some sites allow round-the-clock access; others may close at night.

The city’s map lets you check an individual plaza’s features. Missing seating, poor maintenance or a space locked during its posted hours can be reported through 311; include the listed hours and what you found.

The three-day family market pairs free entry with a program of readings, crafts and movement sessions.

The Holiday Playhouse family pop-up runs November 6–8 at Designers Collab., 96 North Fifth Street, with doors open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is free.

The program includes readings, winter crafts and a Jingle Jam dance party, alongside shopping from family brands. Other planned sessions include a parent-and-baby movement class and sleep questions for parents.

Check the organizer’s activity schedule before heading over if a particular session is your reason to visit. The overall market hours span the same daytime window on all three dates.

Start with a short lakeside path, or use the park’s visitor map to choose a longer outing.

The John Kieran Trail offers an easy, 0.6-mile walk beginning by the lake in the northwest Bronx. Its entry point is at Van Cortlandt Park South and Bailey Avenue.

For a longer route, the 1.9-mile Putnam Greenway follows the lake’s western edge and Tibbetts Brook. Connections along that path lead onto the shorter nature trail.

The 1,146-acre park has multiple wooded routes to explore. Check the downloadable visitor map before choosing a route for an autumn outing.

Mark both dates before planning a counter visit or sending time-sensitive mail.

Regular mail service will pause on November 11 for Veterans Day and November 26 for Thanksgiving. Both dates fall on weekdays: Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

The Saint George Post Office is at 45 Bay Street, Suite 2. Check your branch’s service hours before making a trip, especially if you need a counter service rather than a mail drop-off.
