NYFE Summary

Theodore De Vinne’s printing business produced magazines including The Century and books for the Grolier Club. Its work also included the large Century Dictionary. The business commissioned this building with publisher Roswell Smith.

Thick brick walls carry the building’s weight, rather than a modern steel skeleton. Deep window arches span several floors. The rounded corner and contrasting terra-cotta trim can be seen together from Lafayette and East 4th Streets.
