NYFE Summary

The city gave this small firehouse the carved detail of a larger public building. Wide engine-bay openings occupy the ground floor. Above them, a balustrade and corner turret frame the upper rooms.

Shells, dolphins and floral wreaths appear in the decoration. Dormer windows break through the steep roof, which is edged with iron cresting. The contrast between the working bays and the decorated roof is visible from Lafayette Street.
