NYFE Summary

Printer and type-founder George Bruce commissioned this commercial building after a sawmill on his property burned. He invested in a larger iron structure in anticipation of Canal Street’s growing trade.

Rows of slender columns and rounded arches wrap around the corner. Repeated iron parts allowed a long, detailed facade without thick masonry supports.
