NYFE Summary
Marine Midland Bank occupied the tower as lower Manhattan developed larger modern office buildings. Instead of filling its entire lot, the building stands within an open plaza. This layout followed the city’s new zoning approach that encouraged open space around towers.
Dark aluminum and bronze-tinted glass form a continuous surface. The tower’s trapezoid-shaped plan narrows toward Broadway. Repeated window panels and recessed mechanical bands define its otherwise plain walls.
