NYFE Summary

The old Queens Register of Titles and Deeds building was abandoned when local development efforts turned it into an arts center. Staff began work in 1972. The organization later adopted its present name and expanded the building’s galleries, classrooms and theater.

Today the center presents visual art, music, dance and theater. It also provides studios and classes for artists and other local residents. Visitors can see changing exhibitions in the galleries or attend a scheduled program. Some performances take place at its separate venue farther along Jamaica Avenue.
