NYFE Summary

Clothing showrooms, manufacturing rooms and offices once shared this building. Developer Abraham Lefcourt helped move the clothing industry into the district and commissioned a tower suited to several parts of the trade.

The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union rented a floor for a health center in 1935. It bought the building in 1945 and expanded the care offered to garment workers. The address became part of a wider union effort to improve working conditions and provide social benefits.
