NYFE Summary

The building housed a German restaurant and rathskeller, a cellar dining room. Its name honored poet Joseph Victor von Scheffel, and its design drew on the Friedrichsbau at Heidelberg Castle. O. Henry used the setting in a 1909 story.

Curved gables rise above brick walls covered with terra-cotta ornament. Scrolls, patterned panels and carved-looking window surrounds distinguish the building from the neighboring fronts.
