NYFE Summary

Printing-press manufacturer Robert Hoe and eight fellow book collectors formed the club in 1884. They wanted to improve printing and typography. The club continues to study books through collecting, publishing, exhibitions and public programs.

Its two public galleries present changing exhibitions about books and works on paper. Subjects have included illustration, bindings and the history of printing. The current clubhouse is separate from the club’s earlier landmark home on East 32nd Street.
