NYFE Summary
Isamu Noguchi established a studio nearby in 1961, then bought a factory and vacant lot across the street. Over the following decade he turned them into a setting for his sculpture. The museum opened in 1985 with works arranged by the artist himself.
The building combines an adapted brick factory with an open-air gallery and a sculpture garden. Noguchi selected the garden’s plants as well as its art. Stone works and changing exhibitions show the range of his materials and the relationship between sculpture and its surroundings.
