Coney Island
Coney Island’s boardwalk connects a public beach with an amusement district of rides and the New York Aquarium. The Wonder Wheel and Cyclone are landmarks from the early twentieth century; Sea Gate is a separately mapped community at the peninsula’s western end.

About Coney Island
The first section of the Riegelmann Boardwalk opened in 1923 between Ocean Parkway and West 37th Street. Later extensions brought it east into Brighton Beach. The city designated the boardwalk a scenic landmark in 2018.
The amusement district and the beach sit alongside residential streets. A 2013 city report identified Mermaid Avenue as a retail corridor and the Surf Avenue–boardwalk area as an entertainment district. West Brighton is another name associated with the wider Coney Island area in this split plan.

Planning a visit
The F serves Coney Island–Stillwell Av; the MTA line map shows weekday service and notes that schedules can differ on weekends and late nights. Check current service and each attraction’s hours and admission before traveling.
Beach access and swimming conditions differ: follow NYC Parks signs and swim only where lifeguards are on duty and the water is open. Sea Gate has private streets and beaches; the public boardwalk does not establish access to them.
