Hamilton Heights and Sugar Hill
Explore this part of West Harlem through Hamilton Grange, City College and Riverbank State Park. They show different uses of the heights: a country estate, a college campus and a recreation landscape beside the Hudson.

Understanding Hamilton Heights and Sugar Hill
Hamilton commissioned his country home on a 32-acre estate. The surviving Grange recalls that earlier landscape even though the surroundings changed. Elizabeth Hamilton continued using it for decades after his death.
City College’s history begins in 1847, with a mission of affordable education for New Yorkers. It gives the area an institutional story alongside the smaller house museum.
Sugar Hill's children's museum connects art and storytelling with a contemporary housing and early-childhood campus. It is a Broadway Housing Communities program. The museum describes Faith Ringgold's local work as an artist and teacher as part of its inspiration.
