Kingsbridge-Marble Hill

This mapped collection combines Kingsbridge with Marble Hill, a Manhattan neighborhood physically attached to the mainland. The old river crossings, today's playground and a public library make the geography useful to understand before a visit.

Understanding Kingsbridge-Marble Hill

The King's Bridge and the later free Farmers' Bridge connected Manhattan with the mainland and served the area's farms and roads. The Kingsbridge name preserves that crossing history even though the old bridges are gone.

Marble Hill takes its name from former quarries. The 1895 ship canal cut it off from Manhattan Island, and filling the old creek later joined it to the mainland. It remains part of Manhattan borough. DCP's larger Kingsbridge-Marble Hill statistical area crosses the borough line to fit Bronx Community District 8.

Places to explore

  • Marble Hill Playground

Marble Hill Avenue between West 228th and West 230th streets

Choose a public play or court stop within Marble Hill. Parks lists playgrounds, basketball, soccer and restrooms; check current project notices before choosing a particular facility.

  • Kingsbridge Library

    291 West 231st Street

For an indoor reading or community-program visit, check the branch's current schedule with NYPL. The library systems' 2025 announcement added Sunday service here; this page does not freeze those hours.

  • Ewen Park stairway

    Nearby, between Kingsbridge and Riverdale

The former estate park has a long stair link between the two neighborhood levels. Choose it for the hillside setting, with its stairs understood before planning the visit.
