Long Island City and Hunters Point
The Hunters Point waterfront makes Long Island City’s industrial past visible in restored gantries. Its library adds contemporary architecture and environmental interpretation. Inland, MoMA PS1 offers changing art exhibitions in a separate museum setting.

Understanding Long Island City and Hunters Point
The gantries at the waterfront once handled railcar floats and barges. Preserving the loading structures explains the name and form of Gantry Plaza State Park more clearly than a skyline view alone.
Hunters Point Library opened in 2019 on a redeveloped brownfield site. Steven Holl Architects used a load-bearing concrete exterior with irregular window openings around reading spaces. Its environmental education center connects the new public building with the watershed and East River habitats.
