NYFE Summary

This former public school closed in 1963. Curator Alanna Heiss later secured it for an art center, which opened in 1976 with the exhibition Rooms. Artists made installations specifically for the old school’s spaces.

That approach continues in works built into the walls, ceilings and floors. Changing exhibitions, performances and a courtyard program add other ways to explore contemporary art. The museum also offers a family activity guide for looking at the building and its artworks.
