Marine Park-Mill Basin-Bergen Beach
The Lott House and Kings Plaza offer very different visits in this part of southeastern Brooklyn. The farm architecture, shopping complex and residential streets provide points of reference for exploring Marine Park, Mill Basin and Bergen Beach as distinct communities.

Understanding Marine Park-Mill Basin-Bergen Beach
The Lott farm depended on enslaved labor before changing to later forms of hired work. By the 1880s, grain cultivation was giving way to fruit and vegetables. The last harvest came in 1925; water and sewer infrastructure soon spread through former fields as residential building accelerated. This history connects the surviving farmhouse with the surrounding streets.
Mill Basin’s port ambitions were held back by the lack of rail connections; major housing followed in the 1950s and 1960s. Bergen Beach’s former island meadows were connected to the uplands by filling and embankments. Georgetowne’s name survived a planned development that was never built, while later houses and low-rise developments gradually changed the area.
