Norwood

Norwood centers everyday shopping and neighborhood recreation around Bainbridge Avenue, East 204th Street and Williamsbridge Oval. Pair the park with a booked visit to the Museum of Bronx History.

Understanding Norwood

The city’s assessment traces Norwood’s change from farmland to an immigrant neighborhood. Its Irish settlement gave part of Bainbridge Avenue the name Little Belfast, while later communities changed the businesses along the corridor.

The Valentine–Varian stone house predates the apartment neighborhood. Its blacksmith-and-farm history belongs to the old Boston Post Road, and the historical society preserved it as a museum.

Places to explore

  • Williamsbridge Oval

Reservoir Oval East and Van Cortlandt Avenue East

Choose the track, courts, play space or recreation-center program. Despite its name, the Oval is in Norwood; the Williamsbridge neighborhood lies elsewhere.

  • Valentine–Varian House

    3266 Bainbridge Avenue

The Museum of Bronx History uses the preserved farmhouse to explain the borough’s change over time. The current source specifies tours by appointment, so contact the historical society before an interior visit.

The assessment uses these streets to describe the neighborhood’s shops and changing immigrant communities. Choose current businesses individually rather than relying on the report as an hours guide.
