NYFE Summary

Built for AT&T and later used by Sony, this tower brought historical references back to the skyscraper. Its granite walls and roof with a circular opening differed from the plain glass towers around it. The roof recalls the tops of eighteenth-century clocks and cabinets.

The garden behind the tower has been enlarged and replanted. Trees, seating, a fountain and food kiosks make it a public place to pause between East 55th and East 56th Streets. The office building and garden have separate uses.
