NYFE Summary

The American Seamen’s Friend Society provided lodging, meals and support for sailors arriving in New York. Olivia Sage helped fund this home near the Hudson River piers. Surviving members of the Titanic’s crew stayed here after the disaster in 1912.

The red-brick building has pale stone trim and a polygonal corner tower facing the waterfront. Its small rooms reflected its purpose as temporary lodging. The building continued to house travelers after its work as a sailors’ home ended.
