NYFE Summary

This former home later housed the Chinese delegation and then the Soviet mission to the United Nations. A developer began demolishing its interior for an apartment tower in 1965. Public protest and the Marquesa de Cuevas’s purchase saved it and two neighboring houses.

The house became a center for cultural exchange. Americas Society now presents historical and contemporary art from Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada. Its exhibitions and related programs connect the former diplomatic building with artists and ideas from across the Americas.
