NYFE Summary
The city’s Depression-era pool program combined public recreation with jobs funded through the Works Progress Administration. This complex also hosted the final trials for the 1936 Summer Olympics. Its large pool and spectator areas were planned together.
The bathhouse is set into a slope, with viewing terraces above and bleachers facing the water. Glass-block walls and patterned brick give the low buildings their character. The surrounding bridges frame the waterfront setting.
