NYFE Summary
Albert and Ludwig Baumann, immigrants from Bohemia, sold furniture and carpets here when this part of Manhattan was a major shopping district. A later Woolworth store installed the chain's first lunchroom in the ground-floor space.
The wide cast-iron front mixes several kinds of ornament rather than following one simple pattern. Slender supports, decorated panels and varied window surrounds cover the upper stories. The building extends through the block to a plainer brick-and-stone front on the next street.
