NYFE Summary

New York Herald publisher James Gordon Bennett Jr. commissioned the building as a real-estate investment. Later owners added floors and extended it while continuing the cast-iron design.

Closely spaced columns and curved window corners run across three street fronts. Repeated iron sections allowed the upper additions to follow the earlier pattern, producing a much taller building with a consistent surface.
