NYFE Summary

Banker Eugene Kelly commissioned an office building around a full-height atrium. More than two hundred offices originally faced the central space. The red brick, stone trim and steep corner towers survive from this early period of tall commercial buildings.

Fire-safety concerns kept the atrium sealed off for decades. Restoration during the conversion to The Beekman hotel reopened the view through its iron galleries to the skylight. The ground-floor bar and dining spaces now sit beneath the restored interior.
