NYFE Summary

The store grew across a group of buildings that replaced Cornelius Vanderbilt II's mansion. At first, the development was intended to look like several separate properties. As Bergdorf Goodman expanded, changes to the shopfronts tied the lower floors together.

Above the display windows, the original divisions are easier to see. White marble fronts rise to sloping slate roofs, with larger pavilions at the ends. The different rooflines preserve traces of the complex's original arrangement.
