NYFE Summary
The Chanin brothers planned this theater alongside two other playhouses of different sizes. Producers could move a show to a larger or smaller house as ticket sales changed. This middle-sized venue first operated as the Royale.
For several years it served as a CBS radio studio before returning to live theater in 1940. It took Bernard B. Jacobs’s name in 2005 to honor a longtime Shubert Organization president. Three tall arches and decorative pale trim frame the upper street front.
