NYFE Summary

The Bowery Savings Bank expanded into Midtown as the Grand Central district developed. Its large banking hall used richly colored stone and monumental arches to give depositors a sense of permanence.

Carved animals and bands of ornament surround the main street arch. Alternating stone colors and deep window openings continue across the facade, while a later adjoining extension repeats its materials.
