NYFE Summary

The company grew after the Civil War as Brooklyn’s population and businesses expanded. Its headquarters joined the financial buildings near Borough Hall. The design borrowed the appearance of an Italian urban palace to give the bank a formal public face.

Rough-textured limestone forms the base, while smooth stone and tall columns frame the upper windows. Seven large arches run along the Clinton Street side. Carved birds, flowers and animals surround the Montague Street entrance.
