NYFE Summary

Maps, photographs, books and oral histories here document how Brooklyn’s neighborhoods and residents have changed. The center makes those collections available for public research and uses them in exhibitions and programs. Someone researching a family, a building or a neighborhood can work with the collections in the Othmer Library reading room.

The reading room’s carved woodwork, stained glass and original furnishings are part of the historic building. Outside, terra-cotta ornament covers the brick facade. Exhibitions provide a starting point for a general visit; researchers are encouraged to arrange an appointment before using archive materials.
