NYFE Summary

A fire at the Triangle Waist Company killed 146 garment workers here in 1911. Most were young immigrant women and girls. The disaster prompted investigations of factory conditions and new requirements for fire safety and workers’ welfare.

A stainless-steel ribbon now wraps around the corner with the victims’ names and ages. The building houses university classrooms and labs. The memorial can be read from the sidewalk outside.
