NYFE Summary

Laura Natalie Stirn used her home and gardens for gatherings that supported women’s voting rights. Suffragists addressed audiences here, and her parties brought the campaign into Staten Island social life. She also grew rare plants in the conservatory and grounds.

After the house deteriorated, Gina Biancardi acquired it and gave it to a new Italian cultural foundation. Restoration made room for exhibitions, language classes, cooking programs and house tours. The Enrico Caruso Gallery and rotating displays are part of the mansion’s new use.
