NYFE Summary

This was the civic center of Edgewater before Staten Island joined New York City. Municipal and magistrates’ courts met here until later courthouses took over those functions.

Brick arches, projecting dormer windows and a small tower give the former hall its shape. The village-hall lettering remains visible above the doors. The surrounding public square is now named for James Tappen, who died in the First World War.
