NYFE Summary

The cathedral’s seven chapels reflect the different immigrant communities that helped shape New York. Their designs draw on traditions from several parts of Europe. Elsewhere, the windows combine religious subjects with work, science and daily life. The medical window includes both biblical healing and Louis Pasteur vaccinating a sheep.

The tile dome over the crossing was intended as a temporary covering, but it remains in place. Modern subjects also appear in the stone carving around the main entrance, including New York buildings. Sightseeing visits and guided tours operate alongside worship; admission for prayer follows different arrangements.
