NYFE Summary

The museum’s displays grew out of scientific collecting and fieldwork. Its teams brought dinosaur fossils back from the Gobi Desert, while artists and scientists worked together on the habitat dioramas. They recorded landscapes, photographed animals and made molds of plants so the scenes would reflect particular places.

The African mammal dioramas show how painted backgrounds and detailed foregrounds create those settings. Elsewhere, the blue whale model and the long Titanosaur cast show the scale of animals from different environments and periods. General admission covers the permanent halls; the planetarium show and some other experiences require separate ticket selections.
