NYFE Summary

Before motor taxis, the New-York Cab Company tried to make hired carriages more predictable. It used set fares, driver badges and conspicuous yellow vehicles. This large stable housed part of that horse-powered transport business.

Automotive tenants followed as cars replaced many horse-drawn trips. The ground floor changed for garages and shops, but the upper walls retain elaborate brickwork and a scalloped cornice. Those details help distinguish the old stable from neighboring apartment buildings.
