NYFE Summary

Walter Chrysler paid for this tower personally, rather than through his car company. The building still advertised his industry. Decorations at the setbacks borrow from radiator caps and wheel hubs, while large metal eagles project from higher floors.

The crown was also part of a competition for height. A long spire was assembled inside the building, then raised into place to overtake the rival tower at 40 Wall Street. From the street, the car-inspired details and triangular crown windows explain more of the design than its silhouette alone. This entry is an exterior viewing stop.
