NYFE Summary

The oil company's move from the financial district helped establish the area around Grand Central as a corporate center. The architects replaced an earlier brick-and-granite proposal with a metal-and-glass design that gave the building a different identity.

Thousands of embossed stainless-steel panels cover the walls. Their patterns contrast with smooth metal and dark blue glass. Curving steel arches frame the street entrances, while the tower and lower wings have straight edges.
