NYFE Summary

Irwin and Henry Chanin expanded from building houses in Brooklyn to theaters, hotels and office towers. Their own headquarters became an early large development around Grand Central Terminal. The building joined offices and the firm’s theatrical work under one roof.

The lower floors carry bronze and terra-cotta decoration with stylized plants and flowing forms. Reliefs and grilles inside the entrances express a theme of opportunity in the city. Higher up, projecting forms emphasize the tower’s corners and crown.
