NYFE Summary

Engineers built a new diagonal subway station beneath the old Grand Union Hotel site. They made its foundations strong enough to carry a tall building above, allowing the city to sell the land for development.

The building’s brick and terra cotta were deliberately made to look weathered. Rounded arches and tiled roof details recall northern Italian buildings, while a deep court brings light between the tall wings facing Park Avenue.
